Improving flash flood risk assessment using a simple approach for extreme rainfall scaling and storms transposition

چکیده

Flash flood risk management is among the key topics of European Flood Directive. Design hydrographs small river basins could underestimate hydraulic in case intense and short-duration events because intensification hourly rainfall design depths uncertainty often ungauged basins. The use synthetic hyetographs obtained from past observed can be useful for a better evaluation flash hazard at basin scale. For this reason, simple approach based on scaling storms transposition occurred presented to identify areas where discharges risk. methodology considers spatial distribution over specific zone areal reduction factors scale different extensions. Hyetographs are used as input hydrological model set located Northern Tuscany (Italy). results show how peak usually greater than floods with an area generally less 30 km2.

Assessment of Vulnerability to Extreme Flash Floods in Design Storms

There has been an increase in the occurrence of sudden local flooding of great volume and short duration caused by heavy or excessive rainfall intensity over a small area, which presents the greatest potential danger threat to the natural environment, human life, public health and property, etc. Such flash floods have rapid runoff and debris flow that rises quickly with little or no advance war...

Mesoscale Processes Contributing to Extreme Rainfall in a Midlatitude Warm-Season Flash Flood*

Observations and numerical simulations are used to investigate the atmospheric processes that led to extreme rainfall and resultant destructive flash flooding in eastern Missouri on 6–7 May 2000. In this event, a quasi-stationary mesoscale convective system (MCS) developed near a preexisting mesoscale convective vortex (MCV) in a very moist environment that included a strong low-level jet (LLJ)...

regionalization approach for extreme flood analysis using l-moments

flood frequency analysis is faced with the problem of data and information limitation in arid and semi-arid regions. particularly in these regions, the length of records is usually too short to ensure reliable quantile estimates. more than 75% of iran is located in arid and semi-arid regions and despite the low annual precipitation, often large floods occur. one way to provide more information ...

Regional rainfall and flood frequency analysis for Sicily using the two component extreme value distribution

This paper first presents a duration-dependent hypothesis regarding the parameters of the two component extreme value (TCEV) distribution and proposes a simple model to obtain the rainfall depthduration relationship both at ungauged sites and at short record gauged sites in the Sicilian region. Then, by using the annual maximum peak flood and the annual maximum mean daily discharge recorded in ...
